Brooks Shaw’s Old Country Store, Casey Jones Village Hosts Spring Events for Community

March 13, 2023 — Brooks Shaw’s Old Country Store and Casey Jones Village will offer several events this spring including craft classes for children, live music, a petting zoo, and the continuation of the lunch-and-learn series which will focus on Recovery Ally training for employers. Old Country Store’s spring programming is part of its ongoing commitment to remain engaged with the community’s youth, seniors, families, and employers.

“We’re excited to offer a diverse schedule of programs this spring,” Old Country Store General Manager Brooks Shaw said. “Each event has been curated to benefit, encourage and support our Guests in their daily lives.”

The first spring event, Casey Jones Craft Camp at the Casey Jones Home & Railroad Museum, offers creative, family-friendly fun beginning March 13, 2023, with two events throughout the week Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday. The free craft classes are for children 0-10 years of age. Guests will enjoy St. Patrick’s Day themed crafts as well as light refreshments. The craft projects will take place in the Jackson Room of the museum. Each event will be followed by fruit, cookies, and sweet or unsweet tea from the Old Country Store. The schedule will be 10:30 a.m. for children ages 0-6, 1:30 p.m. for ages 7-10, March 13-14 and March 16-17, 2023.

The following week Old Country Store will host live music in the restaurant’s Delta Room from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. beginning March 24 and continuing March 31, April 7 and April 14. Local musicians will provide background, instrumental music and it is free for Guests to enjoy while they eat from Old Country Store’s world famous buffet.

Local employers are encouraged to purchase tickets for the Recovery Ally Training lunch-and-learn with guest speaker Amy Bechtol from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. April 4 in the Delta Room. Tickets can be purchased at (https://www.caseyjones.com/store/event/recovery-ally-training-for-employers-lunch-learn/) Reservations are required for the limited seating event with 100 seat capacity. Bechtol will discuss the stigma and barriers of mental health, addiction and learn creative approaches for creating a successful workplace. A box lunch will be provided with an admission ticket including either a ham or turkey sandwich, chips, a brownie and soft drink.

The Farm at Casey Jones Village will offer a free petting zoo for Guests to visit from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., April 15, 2023. The community can enjoy petting baby farm animals as well as a variety of exotic animals including lemurs and a bottle-fed baby kangaroo. Free lemonade and tea will be provided.
